Doodlebug Christmas Cards

As promised I am back today with a couple of Christmas cards!  I played with Doodlebug Design's Sugarplum Collection and made a couple of cards with some little fun twists to them!

First up is a Shaker Card.  I love making Shaker Cards and this Santa was just screaming to be standing in front of some glitter snow!  I used my die cut machine to cut a hole in the front of the card and then just used some old cellophane packing to make a pocket of glitter to add to the inside of the card.  I added a little pom pom for Santa's hat to give the card a little more whimsy!  At first I thought about adding pom poms to his beard - but these ones were way too big and just looked goofy :).

This one was super simple!  I actually used one of the 4 X 4 pieces from one of the patterned papers that can work as a pocket piece.  I used a craft knife to cut the door open and folded it.  I then fussy cut a gingerbread man (the stickers I had were too big) and slid him insdie.  I love how cute it looks! I also added a Christmas tree sticker to the side of the house. I added in a sentiment and some enamel dots and voila!  Sometimes just looking at those little pieces that come in the collection and tweeking them just a bit is enough to make the card unique but doesn't require tons of layering and time!

Have you started working on your Christmas Cards yet? Link me up when you do - I would love to see some!

December 25th - It's Coming!

Christmas is still two months out but I have learned from years past that if I wait until we get closer I will never get as many picture on layouts as I would like!  So I decided to pull out some Christmas last week and start playing!  Here's a fun layout I created using Doodlebug Design's Sugarplum Collection.

The pictures on this are from when my daughter was 4, she's now 8.  Have I made my case for starting early?  These pictures needed a home, finally!  I had fun adding some little details to this layout.

I created a little scene with the die cut gingerbread house - adding stickers around it.  I also added some rows of white hand stitching below it to mimic snow.

The ornament stickers helped add some whimsy.  I popped some of those up with foam adhesive and then added white hand stitching to make them look like they were hanging.  Surrounding them with blue snowflakes and white enamel hearts added more little details and texture.

It was fun to get into the Christmas spirit early AND guess what!?! Tomorrow I will have a couple of Christmas cards to share with you from this same line!  So if you are getting started on your cards, you will want to check back ;)!

Too Cute To Spook: Using Multiple Cut Files on a Layout

Using lots of cut files on a layout doesn't have to be scary or complicated and this week we were challenged at Just Nick to use at least four!  It took a little more precise planning than I usually do but it wasn't too difficult to do!  I think JustNick files definitely make it easier to do this as she has so many words

I started off using one of my favorite files the Brick Circle Background.  In this case I used it as a way to pull in some extra color and texture to my background.  That extra orange really helps my pictures pop off the page!
The Handcut Letters 2 are so unique and kind of fit with my "tiger" title because of the stripe!  The bats come from the brand new Spooky Stuff file.  I folded their wings up to give them some added dimension.
The Doodle Frames were perfect for mounting over my pictures and adding another pop of color. He certainly is Too Cute to Spook and I think he will be just that again this year!  Have fun experimenting with multiple cut files - you never know how great they can look until you give it a try!

Guest Designing with PageMaps

This month Paper House's design team is guest designing for PageMaps. PageMaps is a great site that produces new sketches each month for whatever style of scrapbooker you might be! They have double page spreads, 8 1/2 X 11, multi-photo and more!  I worked with an 8 1/2 X 11 sketch for my layout!

Sketches are always a fun way to speed up the design process a bit and get those creative juices flowing!  I decided to dive into the Colorways Orchid Collection for my layout.

I used a combination of patterned papers, the accent pack, and puffy stickers throughout the layout.

For the top of my layout I decided to fussy cut part of the Orchid Tapestry Paper so that I could add some dimension to the flowers.  After cutting it down to size I put foam adhesive pieces beneath select petals so that they would pop up.  A couple pieces from the Accent Pack helped add some silver in up top.

The frames from the Accent Pack were perfect for the small pictures the layout called for! The Accent Pack also had the right pieces to make a pretty title.  The Peace Puffy Stickers added some extra dimension and silver alongside and below the pictures.

Have you had a chance to check out the new Colorways Collections yet? I'm not sure which I love most!

Pumpkin Patch Layout

There is a brand new sketch contest up for the month at My Creative Sketches.  Here's the sketch to play with:

And this month I played along so I am happy to share this Pumpkin Patch Layout using the Main Kit from My Creative Scrapbook (yes, I know, I got some serious projects out of that one!!!)
There are a lot of layers and pieces to this layout and this sketch!

I love the die cuts that came in the kit but I also love that there was the option to use chipboard - that little bit of extra dimension for some of those pieces make a huge difference in the whole layout.  I also enjoyed playing with the brads, even if I did stab one of my fingers with one. OUCH! Clumsy!

Pam is offering a great prize for one randomly picked entry in the sketch contest - have a look!
So come and join in the fun - I'd love to see what you create!  You may just win or get a chance to have your layout featured!

Guest Sketch Artist for Scrap Our Stash

I am excited to share that I am the Guest Sketch Designer for Scrap Our Stash this month!

On this site you combine the use of a sketch with a stash busting item.  I love the concept and was excited to play along! Here is the sketch that I designed:

And here's the layout I created to go along with it!
I decided to use the fun Doodlebug Back to School Collection for the layout.  If you really want to get through a project fast - use one collection and a sketch. It's a serious time saver! I used to work with stuff from all over my stash but I have learned over the last couple years what a time saver it is to work mostly from one collection.  That has helped me to keep my studio more organized too - I know it's important to keep collections together so I can easily grab them!

I have been waiting for the right collection to use to scrap these pictures.  This was my daughter's first day of first grade.  She woke up that morning with a bug bite on her eyelid. As you can see in the pictures her eye area is swollen.  We weren't sure at first if it was pink eye or a bug bite - imagine missing the first day of school because of pink eye!  She ended up having a great day despite the rough start!

The stash busting item to use this month for the challenge was metal.  I used brads throughout the top and bottom of my layout!  I added some over the top of the dots in the patterned paper to add some dimension up there. It doesn't show as well in the picture as I'd like - but in person it's fabulous ;)!

At the bottom I used them more like scattered enamel dots!
I don't always have the right color of enamel dots and I have been going to brads fairly regularly lately as a substitute when I need it.  You can barely tell the difference!

There's a great prize over at Scrap Our Stash from Creative Embellishments!  Come play along and join in the fun!  I can't wait to see what you create!

Fall Wreath Tutorial

Sometimes you have just enough supplies left over from a kit to make something extra.  I decided to use my patterned paper scraps from this month's Main Kit from My Creative Scrapbook to create a fall wreath!  This kit was full of Simple Stories papers which blend together beautifully!  I started out thinking I'd use the more neutral papers but it just wasn't working.  So I went bold and combined patterns.  Thankfully the colors blend together perfectly so it didn't get to be overwhelming!
I've created a wreath like this before so I knew it wouldn't be too time consuming or eat up a ton of supplies!  Here's how to do it:

'
Cut 1 inch X 12 inch strips of your patterned paper.  For a wreath with an interior circumference of 8 inches I needed 34 strips.

Wrap your strips around a wreath base.  You can use a ring (that looks better for dimension) or if you don't have one you can just cut a ring out of chipboard or cardboard. The strips will overlap a bit on the wreath base. Connect the strips at the end with adhesive.

Cut a notch out of the end of each strip - don't worry about being perfectly exact.

Use burlap and ribbon to create a pretty fall bow.  Attach this with hot glue or a strong liquid adhesive.

Add other leftover pieces like flowers and chipboard pieces to surround your bow and add some pretty accents.  You can leave it like this or cut out a banner or some other sentiment to add to the center as well.

Fall Cards with My Creative Scrapbook

This month I decided to use my leftover supplies from the Main Kit and create some fall themed cards.  I did not have a lot of patterned paper left after I did all my projects but I did have plenty of ephemera pieces and chipboard.  This required a little creativity on my part but I managed to still eek out four fun cards!

This first one is actually my favorite of the bunch - I love the patterned paper that looks like burlap! I also really like how the cluster of fall shapes came together at the bottom.

This one took on a more vibrant feel with that yellow but it's perfect for a friend card - especially a friend who likes coffee ;)

Clean and simple with things falling to mimic falling leaves.  I love that little apple at the bottom too!

On this one I used part of a pocket page element and then added to it.  This one is perfect for Thanksgiving - don't you think!?!

I need to use up the ends of my kits more often like this - it was fun and good little challenge to work with what was in front of me!

Family Time Layout & Giveaway Winner!

Today I have my last layout with the Creative Kit from My Creative Scrapbook to share with you!  On this one I had fun playing with stickers and different patterned papers!
I love to fussy cut, love it!  So on this one I cut out the big chevrons from one patterned paper and added those to the base. I also added a couple of patterned paper borders to the top to help balance everything.  One simple picture of my kiddos on a long walk last year surrounded by stickers, brads, mist splatters, and some stitching and it was done.  Not overly complicated but lots of visually interesting things going on!

And now on to the winner from my kit giveaway last week!!!
Thank you to all of you who took the time to leave so many nice comments!
Cghundley was the name drawn!
Carla pm me your address on facebook (on the Scrapping with Christine fb page) and I will get that sent out to you!

Pumpkin Patch Layout

With the madness of the last 6 weeks of life I have found myself in a bit of a mojo rut. Mostly I think my brain was so overwhelmed with life it wasn't processing creativity in the way I normally do. Not totally uninspired but needing to try some fresh ideas and techniques to get back into my groove.  When that happens I take to Pinterest, Scrapbook.com gallery, and Instagram to look for inspiration.  Generally what I do is if I find something inspiring I look at it and then sit on it for 24 hours and see how I can take it and put my own spin on it.  I was very inspired by the use of white space and a circular picture on this layout by Chantalle McDaniel that I decided to work with those two ideas and create this layout using the Main Kit from My Creative Scrapbook.

I love how it came together with a whimsical feel to it!  With the picture being central and circular it was easy to build around it using a mixutre of soft edges and patterns combined with a variety of textures.  I think it has that feeling of fall leaves dropping.  This is a layout that can easily be pulled together with coordinating supplies in your stash.  Pull out some chipboard, ephemera, and brads and you are set to go!  You don't even have to have patterned paper (as Chantalle showed) you could just go with solids!  And the good news is, now that life has slowed down, my creativity juices are running at full speed again!

Using a Stamp for Title Work on a Layout

SRM Stickers has recently added stamps to their store and even stamps that are designed by them! The new Big Stamps are perfect for everything from cards to gift wrap to layouts!  The size is perfect for adding words to layouts and today I am going to show you how I did just that! Today I have a layout for you that is full of love and some major silliness too!
For this layout I used the Clear Stamp called Big Love to highlight my striped paper.  Before I stamped I figured out where I wanted to put my pictures.  Because the stamps are Big, you need to do a little planning before you put the ink to paper!

I used the stamp three different times and then put my silly kids names by it!  I also used some other pieces from SRM to make the layout perfect.  I added in a twine bow using the Caribbean Bakers Twine.  I also added a row of "stitched" scallops to my patterned paper border to help soften that edge.  That sticker came from the Black Sticker Stitches Set.

gold lace doily coordinated perfectly with the foil gold accents in my paper!  And of course more sticker stitches to highlight my stamping!

Fall Layouts with My Creative Scrapbook

I think fall has to be my favorite of all the seasons to scrapbook - how about you?  When I got my hands on the Main Kit from My Creative Scrapbook this month, I was so excited!  It's packed with fall and family themed products primarily from Simple Stories!  I quickly printed some fall pictures that I hadn't used yet and got ready to dive in!

Today I have a couple of those layouts to share with you!

Oh how I love the Embroidery Hoop Paper that came in this kit.  I decided to cut out circle shaped pics of the kiddos and add them to it! I also added in some chipboard and other embellishments from the kit to some of the hoops.

The title is made up from two different sets of chipboard.  I love how well the products coordinated on this!

When I saw this September paper included in the kit, I knew i wanted to use it in a somewhat traditional manner.  September was a really stressful month in our house but it was also a month where we made major life decisions.  On August 31st my husband received a call from a congregation in Nebraska asking him to consider coming to be their Pastor.  Our month was consumed by that.  We waited a full week to announce that he had been offered the position because we wanted it to be shared with the whole congregation at the same time.  We did that on the 6th - thus the cross on that day.  On the 10th we flew to Nebraska to visit.  The next couple weeks were spent in a lot of prayer and quiet time as we could find it.  Ultimately Ben felt God was calling him to stay in Illinois and he announced that to our church on the 27th - thus the I Pick You sticker.  None of these pieces are really themed to fit how our month played out - but it was fun to find little pieces to make fit anyway!

Doing this for the month has got me considering doing for each month!  It was a fun reflection and fun to pull out some pictures to fit in here and there!

You can find all the goodies from these layouts in the Main Kit over at My Creative Scrapbook.

Doughnut Pocket Page

I have a little boy who loves donuts (why does there have to be two different spellings for this word?!?) and I have so many fun pictures of him over the last year with donuts.  I could do a dozen layouts on donuts.  Or I could combine some of my favorites into one.  As I looked through the supplies in the Creative Kit from My Creative Scrapbook this month I found there were several donut themed pieces.  Perfect!  Time to do a fun pocket page!

I don't do a ton of pocket pages but I always enjoy the step away from the regular 12 X 12 medium when I do!  I love being able to get a lot of pictures onto a layout without having to figure out how to work that many into a traditional design and keep it eye pleasing!

Aside from the title pocket, I added little embellishements, stickers, and patterned papers to jazz up each pocket.  I added a strip of kraft cardstock to the "selfie" pocket so I could turn it from just "selfie" to "donut selfie." I also did the same with the "Chocolate with Sprinkles" pocket.  That's his favorite kind so we couldn't miss out on adding that detail :).

If you haven't had a chance to check out the new kits this month from My Creative Scrapbook, head over and check them out!  They are packed with fall and family fun!

Sparkling up your Cards

I love to look at the details of things and try to find a way to put my own spin on them.  Today I am going to show you how I did just that with a couple of JustNick files and cards!  I added my own sparkling details to the cards!
As I was looking at the Retro Sqaure Background file I thought it would be neat to do some kind of a shape with the grid you see in it!  I have a stockpile of rhinestones so that was the perfect medium to use!  After figuring out the shape of the heart I started building from the top and bottom (so it would be close to center) and filled in from there.  I considered putting the rhinestones inside the little squares but opted for the vertices instead.
I cut out a second copy of the Retro Square in pink and filled in a border using the inside pieces.  I also cut out a coordinating sentiment from the new Card Sentiments 2 Set.
I have a soft place in my heart for scallops - I love how they look on cards and will go to them whenever I have the chance.  This card uses the Scallop Background.  After cutting out the scallop background I attached it to a piece of vellum. I absolutely loved the way the Shine Bright Accent piece from Paper House Productions (it's in the new Gatsby Collection) looked on top of the ruffles!
I then added a rhinestone to the center of each scallop.  I love how sparkly this turned out but I also think it would be really neat with little pearls!

US Army Layout

Did you know that Paper House offers a variety of US Military papers and stickers?  These are perfect for putting together layouts about your loved ones either currently serving or those who have served in the past.  We recently had a young man from our area enlist in the army and I asked his mom to share some of her pictures with me so I could create her a layout!

There are so many fun pieces in this set that I had a hard time narrowing down what to use!  I decided to go with US Army Emblem 3D Sticker and papers and 3D stickers from the US Army Paper Crafting Kit. To make the paper more one of a kind I added eyelets to the borders of the patterned paper.

3D Stickers are one of my go to embellishments - I love the personality and dimension they can bring to a flat layout!  I especially love the chain on the one sticker in this set!

She had included a picture of the Army flag for me, so I opted to fussy cut that out and lay it over a picture.  Surrounding it by punched stars and the title it makes a nice added embellishment.

With Veterans Day coming up, now is the perfect time to snag some US Military supplies and make something special for your favorite soldier or their family! And then make sure you share them with me!

My Creative Scrapbook Layout Sneak Peek & Kit Giveaway!

We're still in sneak peek mode at My Creative Scrapbook but lucky me, I get to share another layout early with you!  I love it when she picks one of mine to feature early because then I get to share early too! I shared another layout from the Creative Kit a few days ago.  That one was on a much more personal topic - today's is a lighthearted one on me and my boy Cooper!

As you can tell from the pictures he was having fun in Selfie mode :).  There are so many pretty patterned papers in this kit, I thought a great way to showcase a lot of them would be to do a grid of punched circles.  Add some embellishments on top of those and it makes for an even more interesting grid!

Now I regularly share posts about My Creative Scrapbook kit club but I have never had the opportunity to do a giveaway of one of their kits to one of my readers!  Today I am going to do that!  I have a Limited Edition Kit from last spring that I am going to give away!
