Back to School Crafty Video Series! Day Two! Giveaway! String Art Classroom Decor

Do you like to dabble in some old school crafts like String Art? If you do, then this project is for you!  I originally started out with the plan for this string art pencil to be used on a layout.  BUT it was too big and just didn't work, so it ended up on some classroom decor instead.  

Although this incorporates several items from my paper crafting stash, it can also be completely done with general craft items!  Let's have a look at the video:

Adding Hand Stitching to Scrapbook Layouts and Paper Crafts

One of my favorite go to techniques is to simply add hand stitching onto my paper craft projects. Each time I share a different project with hand stitching I get comments with questions. Because of that I recently created a video series to help get you started on hand stitching and string art.

Handstitched Birthday Card

As I was sorting thru a stack of layouts today, I found a whole bunch of cards and layouts I haven't shared with you yet!  This first one is perfect for the last day of summer (my kids go back to school tomorrow!)

As I've mentioned before I have been playing with long hand stitches and seeing what kinds of fun backgrounds I can create with them.  For this card I created by sunburst first.  All the bursts go back to one hole....which was ginormous and had to be covered!  I didn't want to go with just a sun because I wanted a contrast in color so I decided to use some pretty blue cloud stickers from Echo Park.  I also added a chipboard banner piece from Pebbles.  I used some liquid pearls to create my little dots and added a birthday sentiment.  This might just be the perfect birthday card for my hubby in a few weeks!

GCD Studios Card

Today I have another card to share with you created for GCD Studios!  

I love geometric shapes and negative space so when I saw this cut for my Cameo I knew I had to have it!

I added some black faux stitching to bring out the black in the sentiment.  And there's some more of those long stitches.  If you are thinking this card took some patience to put together, you'd be right!  But I think the end result is worth it!

Doodling and Stitching My heart Out

One of my goals with my layout creating right now is to just play...experiment...go a little out of my comfort zone!  This one definitely does that.  It started with the rainbow stitching and then I decided to add in the doodling.  I didn't allow any ruler, measuring, etc....I just went....and here's how it turned out!

I felt like it needed some silly pictures to go along with the free spiritedness of it all :)  These are actually a couple years old.  I added some Amy Tan rub-ons, My Minds Eye Enamel Dots, American Crafts letters,.and a little washi tape for the border....other than that it is all one of a kind and was crazy fun to do!

Echo Park Scoot Layout

I'm digging all the geometric stuff that has been trending in the industry.  I'm also realllllly into hand stitching.  So I decided to incorporate both on this layout.  

As I said previously, I am trying to get a little bit caught up on layouts.  This one is of Cooper (who's now almost three) shortly before he turned one.  He was smooshing his face into the storm door and watching his siblings.  I love these cute photos and it was fun to finally put them on paper!  The graph paper was perfect for creating lines to do my hand stitching.  To speed up the process I just did very long straight stitches instead of doing lots of little backstitches.

Heidi Sonboul Signature Series Blog Hop

I am so honored to be joining this group of ladies today that are celebrating the release of Heidi Sonboul's Signature Series book.  Heidi is an amazing talent and I can't wait to explore the book myself!  For my contribution to the hop I am sharing a card that was created using her "SunKissed" line from GCD Studios.

This star paper jumped out at me as I looked through the 6 X 6 paper pad.  I decided to add some long stitching to it along with some epoxy dots.  I cut the "cute" title on my silhouette cameo.

American Crafts "My Girl" Layout: Number Two :)

Just so much to love about this line!  I created this layout first of all my projects. I noticed that machine stitched circles had been trending big time....so I decided to try my hand at one.  Super easy and adds some nice dimension.  I added fussy cut flowers and die cut pieces to add some flow to the layout.  I topped the whole thing with washi tape, canvas stickers, and enamel dots.  My final touch was to add some mist to the top right corner...it was too plain and the white mist was just enough! 

The story behind the pictures is that my little girl was getting rag curls in preparation for Easter Sunday!

Hand Stitched Card

I've enjoyed the Create blog for awhile and decided this week to play along with their challenge and make a card with hand stitching.  Highly unusual for me to just make a card...but I enjoyed it!

I used my EK success flower punch as a template...poked holes all around it and then started doing long stitches upwards. I then did a backstitch all the way around and cut it out.  I always like to do something different than everyone else, haven't seen anything like this so Yea!
