You Are MyHappy

Today is my first post as a design team member for JustNick! I am absolutely loving playing with her cutfiles and I know you will too!  As soon as I saw the You Are My Happy Cut File I knew I wanted to use it for a layout and exactly how I wanted to place a picture with it! The titles just look like they are meant to have a picture sit on them!

I used patterned paper and the Brushstrokes cut files to create my background for both the picture and as anchors in others spots on the layout. I love the look of paint but I am not brave enough (or patient enough) yet to add too much of it to my layouts, so this is the perfect solution!
The brushstrokes made a great matte for my picture and also a great base for my title and journaling!
Have you tried out any JustNick files yet?  She's got a ton of trendy things in her store! Make sure to share it with me if you do create something!

Summer Cards

Paper House Productions makes beautiful supplies for all kinds of paper crafting and cards is one of my favorites!  Today I am sharing a couple of summer cards over on their blog!

I have had this base paper sitting in my pile of “I have to use this paper because I love it” papers for a while now.  It was the perfect time to make a summery card with it. Using a needle and various colored threads I added handstitching to the flowers - adding some unique texture throughout.

I then went in and added some buttons, puffy stickers, and enamel dots to create a clustered look around the flowers.  And of course a fabulous puffy sticker was my finishing touch for a sentiment!

Supplies Used:

While that card was perfect to give away to a female in your life, how about we have one for the men too!  This was was inspired by all the great shades of blue in the new ColorWays Sapphire Line!

I used a cut file to cut out the base of the card.  Then I went to town lining up my patterned papers - trying for an ombre look! I mixed and matched and layered and combined and pulled it all together to give it a look of the night sky down to the ocean blue.

This is what the backside looked like before I covered it up :)

And then of course I had to bring in some fabulous ColorWays Puffy Stickers and Rub-Ons to add a sentiment and some final touches.

Scrapbook Layout Photo Editing Tutorial

I have been wanting to share a simple tutorial of how I use Picmonkey to edit my scrapbook layout photos! Picmonkey is a free web based photo editing software.  It works really well for editing layout photos and I think it's pretty easy to navigate too!

When I start I always pick out which of my photos is best (I usually shoot 3-5 of a layout) and load that into Picmonkey.  My first step is to resize it to size that will look good on my blog (or whatever size is required for my design team work).  For my blog I usually do 600 X 600.

Next I work on the colors.  Whenever I shoot my pictures it is always in indirect sunlight.  If you do full sunlight you will get shadows.  I don't want any shadows and can easily correct my colors to be true using Picmonkey!  Weather permitting I shoot on my front porch - if the weather is bad I get close to a window that has lots of light shining in.  Outside is definitely my preference!

The first thing I do for Color is Click on "Neutral Picker" and click on a part of my layout that is White.

When you do that it attempts to correct your White to be more White and take out the yellow or blue tones.  I find it works pretty well.  Sometimes it goes a little too yellow - but I wait until I am all done with colors and exposure before I decide that!  At this point you can also correct Saturation - I was happy with mine here (and usually am) so I didn't mess with that!

My next stop is Exposure.  This is the one time I usually pick Auto Adjust!  I find it to do a pretty good job of automatically adjusting things.  If it doesn't you can always adjust that a little more.  This step is also really important for brightening your layout up and getting those whites white!.

My last step is to Sharpen.  I rarely adjust the Sharpness beyond 3 - it gets too pixelated if you do that.  Clarity is something I don't mess with a ton either - but if I do I don't go above 10 there.  As you can see here I did some adjusting on both of those here!

So for comparisons sake here's my original layout:
Not terrible - but after all the work I put in on it, I want it to look as good as it does in person!  Here's where it ended up after editing:

Much, much better!  Now I also of course have to share a little about this layout!  This is part of my Treasure This Time Tuesday weekly feature!  Every Tuesday I try to share a new layout about one of my four kiddos that documents little things about them Right Now.  I had noticed that time was getting away from me and I was losing the little memories.  So this is my attempt to change that.  It doesn't happen every week - but I get pretty close!

This week is my sweet 11 year old son!  This is probably the best picture I have taken of him in a long time.  He is in that awkward tween smile stage so if I can capture him naturally smiling, it's a win!  I created my title using my Silhouette Cameo and placed that surrounding the picture.  I also used my half circle as a base for adding some other words that describe him.  My journaling is where I get more into some details of the past month.  I asked him what he thought I should talk about and also just reflect on some things in the last month that have happened.  I love how it turned out and that we will be able to look back and remember this month!

Cherish - My Creative Scrapbook Layout

I have my last layout using the Creative Kit to share with you today!  My goal was to make it a Treasure This Time Tuesday layout - but alas I had other design team commitments here on the blog yesterday.  So it fills my requirements for that but it isn't up on Tuesday :)

As I always do for Treasure This Time, I tried to focus on some little details that will quickly be forgottten.  This month I talked about some of the funny things here says - which will make no sense to anyone outside of our family - but I know I will treasure that memory down the road!

This is actually my favorite layout of all of them that I made out of my My Creative Scrapbook kit this month.  I like the contrast of colors and mix of patterns!  I used several pocket page elements (the smile and cherish) and then brought in circles to soften all the lines.  I did a lot of outlining also with my black pen in order to make things pop off the page a little more!  The chipboard clouds also helped add some dimension to the otherwise flat layout :).

If you haven't had a chance to check out the new kits yet - swing by My Creative Scrapbook!  They are beautiful and will sell out!

Love You A Latte - Father's Day Card

My dad loves coffee.  My husband loves coffee.  Seems like a perfect Father's Day gift is coffee! SRM Stickers is participating in the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop this week and I made this card to join in the fun!

This card is made to hold gift card and I added a little to it to make it even more special!

SRM's sticker stitches are available in a variety of colors and are the perfect thing to always have on hand.  I use them A LOT on my projects.  I thought they would make a perfect addition to this card because they would look like stitching on the pocket, tie, and collar!

As I was finishing off the card I felt like it was still missing something.  It needed a pop of color!  So I pulled out my We've Got Your Border/Valentine sticker sheet.  Lo and behold the heart border cuts apart perfectly to fit in the color!  Love the added sentiment it adds to the card!

Without all the fabulous stickers from SRM this card would be okay but I think their addition makes it absolutely fabulous!

Birthday Girl Layout - My Creative Scrapbook

Today I have another layout to share with you from My Creative Scrapbook.  I really loved the splatter paper background in this kit and decided I had to use it - so it is the base for this layout!
I cut out a square 10 X 10 piece of white cardstock and mounted it onto the splatter paper.  That worked perfect - I can still see it and enjoy the uniqueness of it and the fun colors but it isn't overwhelming! I then brought out the colors by adding circle garland (tutorial coming soon ;)  I did some outlining as well as adding some punches of black accents to bring out the title colors.  This just happens to be another birthday layout for my Lucy - only this wasn't her party day, just the actual day of her birthday!  I love to capture a picture of them on their actual birthday and document it!

I have lots more projects to share with you this week - so I will be back tomorrow with  more goodies!

Today I have my second layout from the Creative Kit from My Creative Scrapbook to share with you!  More awesome Color Chaos from Bella Blvd made for a bright and perfect combo for my daughter's 8th Birthday Party Layout!
I've been noticing a lot of funky angles trending in layouts around the web.  So I thought I'd give that my own spin!  I cut the pink shapes using my paper cutter but without doing any actual measuring!  As you can see the two lines for them would intersect if the pictures weren't there so I did have a little bit of sense to them :).  After adding those and my pictures I just started creating clusters of goodies on the diagonal in the layout.

There is a patterned paper in the kit that says "be the reason someone smiles today" over and over.  I cut that out and made it work for my party theme.  I also trimmed down the chipboard borders to make them work as shorter embellishments throughout!

My Creative Scrapbook June Kit Layout One

It's premiere day for the new kits at My Creative Scrapbook!  This month I played with the Creative Kit and loved all the fun contents! Here's the goodies you will find in it:

Today I have vibrant layout to share of my littlest guy Bo!
This Color Chaos line from Bella Blvd is full of awesome patterns and colors, which we know I love :)  I enjoyed playing up the black aspect of it in this one!  The kit includes chipboard pieces and stickers and buttons; making it easy to build layers and dimension throughout your project!    I created my background initially with strips of patterned paper that was 2 inches tall from various papers in this kit.  I then added the pictures and all the different layers onto that!

Father's Day Card Ideas with Paper House Productions

I am up today at Paper House Productions with a couple of Father's Day Cards!

The colors in the 3D World’s Greatest Dad sticker were perfect matches for ColorWays patterned papers from the Sapphire and Emerald Line.  So of course I pulled those out and used those for my base.

I then added in several more 3D stickers from the Dad 3D Sticker Set and that is all it needed! It’s amazing what you can do with a couple of layers!

This card took on a more rustic feel!  I started with wood paper (Smile Begins with You) for a base.  I then added a frame from the Emerald ColorWays Accent Pack and filled that with letter stickers to spell out DAD.

Highlight some of dad’s characteristics by using fun 3D stickers to describe him (also from the Dad 3D Sticker Set)

Using puffy stickers from the Explore Puffy Stickers to add a final touch help it all to come together!
