Heart Background Tutorial

I finally have my last Main Kit layout from My Creative Scrapbook to share with you today.  I am up on their blog with details on how to make this page and I'm going to show you how I made the heart on this layout using just some ink, scrap paper, and a pencil!

I loved the striped paper in this Main Kit but I wanted to do something different with it.  So I decided to create a unique heart!

Use some scratch paper and cut out a big heart.  I used washi tape to secure it to the center of the paper.

Sorry for the blur on this one....no way to retake it or I would have!  But you get the idea from it anyway!  Use the eraser on a pencil and your ink pad and begin making random dots coming out from your heart.  Random is the key here!

Add the dots all around the layout - filling in more where you see the need. Then take your scrap heart off and you have a beautiful one of a kind outline!  I added in some stitching but other than that I didn't have to do much!  Super easy and very unique!

Easter Decor - Altered Embroidery Hoop Tutorial

I feel like there is not nearly as much Easter home decor out there as there is for other holidays - so I had the perfect excuse to create some new home decor this year!  Welcome Spring  from Imaginisce is perfect for both spring and Easter projects!  I created a set of three altered embroidery hoops to adorn the walls of the Meyer residence.

I've made several hoops like this over the last couple years.  It can be fun and a good challenge to design in a circle instead of a rectangle or square.

I knew I wanted a set of three hoops so I opted to make one a bigger one and added a little more decor to that one.  Lots of fussy cutting took place to create these scenes.

The smaller two hoops are the same size and use the same base patterned paper but different colored eggs.

They also have different bunnies and scenes.

After seeing these you may be wondering how I used paper in the embroidery hoop instead of fabric.  I put together a little tutorial for you to show you how quick and easy it can come together.

1. Take apart your embroidery hoop and set the outside piece aside.
2. Trace your inside piece on the back of the patterned paper you want to use.
3. Cut out your circle but don't cut on the traced line...leave about 1/4" border.  This does not need to be exact!
4. Using quick drying glue (the Imaginisce Ibond Cordless glue gun works perfectly here) put a line of glue onto the top of your hoop.  Turn it over and attach it to the circle.  You will have excess border.
5. Once dry go around and snip every 1/2 inch or so on the excess border. Add glue to the outside of the hoop and fold down the snipped pieces.
7. Add the outside piece of the hoop and you are done.  If you use a quick drying glue you are ready to decorate!

My premiere day at CutCardStock!

Happy Friday!  Christine blogging with you today!  Many times when I go to wrap a present, I realize that I have a great bag for it but no tissue paper!  Today I have a tutorial to share with you for how to make a gift bag topper that is prettier and more fun than tissue paper!  For my topper I used the gorgeous Stardream Metallic Gold Card Stock available here in the CutCardStock Store!
Gift Bag Topper Tutorial by Christine Meyer for CutCardStock - Who needs tissue paper when you can create something this pretty?

First off you will fold  your 8 1/2 X 11 cardstock in half - the long way. This step you may have to change (cut, fold a different direction, etc.) depending on your bag size...use your best judgement.  My bag was nearly 11 inches wide - making this paper the perfect fit!

Lay the cardstock on top of your bag and mark just beyond the handles.

Using the pencil marks as your guide, use your trimmer and cut down 1/4 inch or less to form a very small slit.

Check to make sure it fits on the top of your bag and then you are ready to decorate it!

Because my bag is plain, I decided to add words, a sentiment, and some fabulous gold washi tape.

To decorate I cut out some leaves, using 140# Muscletone kraft card stock,  on my Silhouette Cameo that were meant to be fan folded. I attached those to the bag and then added some hand cut patterned paper leaves. I also used a couple of rows of washi tape to decorate the bottom of the topper.  I added some burlap fringe to the backside so that it hangs out the bottom. Lastly I topped the whole thing off with a big bow, some twine (with gold in it of course), and pretty medallion.

Fringe Flower Tutorial

I realized I hadn't shared this card with you yet!  It premiered in the Paper Cut Magazine for GCD Studios and I was still sorting thru their policies to make sure I could share it :)  Now I know I can!
It features the Pure Bliss line for almost all of it except for the darker leaves are from Nostalgia.  It also features a lovely doily from Gina's Designs as the background for the whole thing!  I made the flowers myself  using a fringe scissors!

First I cut a 1" X 6" strip of paper and then used my fringe scissors cutting in as close as possible to the edge.

Then I rolled it up securing it with a liquid adhesive at the end.

Once dry, I started unfolding the petals one by one until they were all done.

Add an epoxy dot to the center and it it is done!  Aren't they a nice soft touch?

Mitered Edges Tutorial

I love mitered edges!  And after being asked several times how I do them I thought it was time to make a little tutorial up.  For my layout today I used the border strips that come at the bottom of patterned papers from several different companies.  Mine today are from American Crafts, Pebbles, and Studio Calico.

You can make this work with any width of strips...I've done it with much larger ones than you see here.  First off you need to line up your strips to form a right angle.  They should be overlapping each other.

Then use your scissors to trim from the inside of the angle to the outer corner.

And that is basically it!  Now you just line them up together and adhere them down.  I do this for all four pieces before I attach them just to make sure everything is lining up!

If you are interested in checking out a couple other layout I have done this on, you can find one feautring Bella Blvd here and one featuring Echo Park here.

Dimensional Embellishment Tutorial

Hi Quick Quotes Fans!  Christine here hoping you are enjoying your weekend so far!  Today I have a quick tutorial to share with you on how you can use your circle punch to make a dimensional embellishment just like the circles you see in my card.

To start you will want to punch four circles

And then fold those circles in half

Use adhesive to glue together two halves.  I used Beacons 3 in 1 glue because it is quick dry and tacky, but a glue runner will also work!

Continue gluing halves together, leaving the last connection open so that you can glue them down to your project.

Now wasn't that simple and fun!?!

Supplies Used:
White Cardstock
Bakers Twine from the Twinery
Sentiment Sticker from American Crafts
