St. Patrick's Day Treat Bag

Between chocolate gold coins, skittles, and gold rolos there are so many fun options for making up treats for St. Patrick's Day and Core'dinations has the perfect supplies to help you decorate those treat bags.  Today I am going to show you how I used some Darice Metal Dies to create a bag topper.

Treat Bag Topper Supply List:

• Core Essentials Brights
• Glitter Silk Cardstock
• Tillie Dot Spotted 6 X 6 Cardstock
• Glitter Self Adhesive Cardstock - Gold
• White Pen
• Snack Bag
• Darice Bookplate Dies
• Heart Punch
• Scallop Border Punch
• Darice Foamies Shamrocks
• Hot Glue Gun or similar quick dry adhesive

Now on to how to make this simple topper!

Step 1: Cut out the three layers for the topper using the metal dies and the three different green cardstocks and layer them on top of each other.  You will have to offset one of the scallop ones to add some length (otherwise they land on top of each other).   Add some white dots along the edges to create a border.

Step 2: Use a border punch to punch out some gold cardstock and add that to the top.  Punch out a gold heart and layer that with the Green Shamrock foam stickers to the topper along with a heart (that came out of the shamrock)

Step 3:  Fold the top part of the topper over a bag filled with candy and secure with hot glue or some other strong adhesive.

Treasure This Time Tuesday: Capturing the Two Year Old

Two is one of my favorite ages so far.  I know that makes me in the minority for a lot of moms! Two years olds change so much from month to month - this little guy is probably the easiest to have new material on! I took pictures this month that weren't posed - just sneaking up on him to catch his true personality.  Thankfully he sat still for a few minutes this month :)

I recently picked up the new Jack line from Echo Park knowing that I needed more boy supplies for scrapping.  Creating this feature each week and being forced to make sure I am doing boy stuff regularly has definitely made me realize my boy supplies are a little low!  Good excuse for new stuff or to get real creative I guess!  

Because I am running low on time this week I went very clean and simple this week.  I added layers of paper behind the pictures to bring in some of the colors he's wearing and other masculine colors.  I then just simply created two clusters of stickers and other embellishments.  My journaling went right below the picture with a few of the little details that I want to remember about Bo from February.  I love a complicated and detailed layout but I also love something that comes together clean and simple and quick!

Treasure this Time Tuesday: Capturing a little Girl's Spunk

As I have said in previous weeks my goal is to capture the day to day in this weekly feature.  So for today's layout I asked my daughter to pose and show me some of her funny faces. Posed but still capturing who she is! They were especially cute in black & white so I went with that!  I paired the black and white with a colorful line from Simple Stories!

I had about 10 shots of her that I could have used but decided I liked these three the best!  The bottom right hand corner of the paper had the circles already printed on it.  The trick was to figure out how to make it original and incorporate it into my design.  I opted to cut into the chevron paper and add that in the opposite corner so they would play off each other.  Once things started coming together the pictures were getting a little lost in all the color. Adding some Core'dinations tags under the pictures helped those to pop a little more and then outlining them really helped!

Leprechaun Hat Shaped Card Tutorial

I don't know if it's the colors involved or the whimsical nature of the holiday but I love making St. Patrick's Day paper crafts.  It may be my favorite of all the holidays!  Today I am sharing a shaped card hat looks like a Leprechaun hat over at the Core'dinations blog along with the tutorial on how to make it! 

Leprechaun Hat Card Supplies:

• Glitter Adhesive Cardstock
• Tillie Dot 6 X 6 Paper Pad
• Core Essential Cardstock - Darks
• Sand-It Gadget & Dust Buddy
• Silhouette Cameo

Now on to the fun part of how to make this card!

Step 1: Cut out a Leprechaun Hat shape and one in it's mirror image.  I used my Silhouette Cameo for the cut and you can find the file here.  The file will give you most of the pieces you need to cut out the hat and the accessories. For the piece that will be your back score a line about 1/4 inch from the top of it.

Step 2: Add adhesive to the scored part and stick your two pieces together.  The scored part will now allow the back of the card to fold back.

Step 3: Cut out a stripe from the black Tillie Dot cardstock to be the sash on the hat.  Sand it to bring out the core.

Step 4: Cut out a Shamrock out of the Tillie Dot cardstock also but don't sand it this time.  Add the sash to the card. Cut out a belt buckle from the Gold Adhesive Cardstock. Add that and the Shamrock to the sash.

Step 5: Cut out a sentiment from the Gold Adhesive Cardstock and attach it to the card. I also used a Silhouette cut file for this and you can find it here. Outline the whole card with faux stitching or dots.

DIY Spring Tree Branches

It's a DIY weekend around here! Today I have another Core'dinations project to share that you will have so much fun making! Despite the fact that it is like 5 degrees out here - bear with me - spring will be here SOON!

Spring Branches Supply List:

• Core'dinations Essential Cardstock - Pastels
• Tree Branches
• Polka-Dot Embossing Folder
• Sand It Set
• Scissors or Die Cut Machine

Putting the tree together is simple!

Step 1: Cut out leaves from various pastel colors - you can use a die cut machine for this or just trace some simple ones by hand.

Step 2: Dry emboss the leaves to give them some texture.

Step 3:  Sand the leaves to bring out the core and add some extra color.

Step 4: Attach the leaves to the branches using Washi Tape and making them go different directions.

DIY Paper Fortune Cookies

Core'dinations has this great new Polka Dot Pop paper out that has flocked dots all over it.  Today I am going to use some of it and their vellum quotes to show you how to make your own Paper Fortune Cookies.

Paper Fortune Cookie Supplies:

• Polka Dot Pop Kraft Cardstock
• Vellum Quotes -Inspirational Motivations
• Hot Glue Gun
• Scissors

Here's how to make your own Paper Fortune Cookies:

Step 1: Cut out a 4 inch circle and bend it over like this - you don't want to fold it!

Step 2: Push on the cardstock along the backside to weaken the fibers so that you can easily bend the ends forward. Secure with hot glue.

Step 3:  Trim down some inspirational or fortune type quotes.

Step 4:  Slide the quote in your Fortune Cookie

Wouldn't this be a fun project for any kind of a party or shower?

St. Patrick's Day Banner

I have always wanted to make a banner using doilies and when I saw the new green ones that SRM has I knew it was gonna have to be a St. Patrick's Day banner!  This project makes me really wish I had a beautiful fireplace mantle - since I don't we have it hanging up in our kitchen entryway.

This was super easy to create - let me share with you how I did it!  I used foam adhesive and layered a Gold Lace Doily on top of a Green Lace Doily.  They layer perfectly because the Gold ones are four inches and the Green ones are six inches.  

I used gold vellum to cut out stars and attached those to Large White Punched Pieces.  These again layered perfectly onto the doilies as they are 2 1/2 inches in size.  Adding letters to spell out LUCKY and some gemstones was the final touch.

I hung them on a piece of Solid Peapod Twine using clothespins. If the look of clothespins isn't your thing or you don't have any - you could just string the twine through the doilies and make a great banner too!

I love it when companies make such versatile products - good for not just paper crafts but home decor too 

Collage Sunshine Layout - Paper House Productions

Today I have one of my favorite layouts that I have ever created to share!  Paper House Productions has a new and fabulous line called Cork'd.  They are cork stickers that have themes and are a mixture of colored and plain cork.  I absolutely LOVE them and used them in a big way on my layout today!  

Melinda Spinks has long been one the people I look to for inspiration - she has such a unique style and comes up with lots of brilliant ideas.  She has done several collage items over the past year (or so) and I wanted to give it a whirl with my own style and Paper House Cork'd stickers.  

First I lightly traced an 8 ½ inch circle onto the center of my paper.  I then laid out where my picture would go. From there I started with putting in my biggest cork pieces so there was some strategic design placement to them.

I then filled in around it with smaller Cork’d stickers. One tip I have is to try to have parts of stickers touching around a lot of the edge of the circle so that it keeps clear that it is a circle.

I used my die cut machine to cut out a cardstock sunshine border and title.  I kept those bright to match up with the theme of the layout and made the title spread out so it would have that whimsical feeling to it!
